Does anyone elses' grand marquis make a hissing noise from the dash like by the gear box thing?? It sounds like a leaking tire, but its coming from the gear box. Can anyone help??

Patrick 05-13-2005 06:41 PM

wow...i didnt have that problem with mine...sorry.

mybeast87 05-14-2005 08:31 PM

Well, I don't know, but it goes away the faster I go. It's really loud when I'm idling. I really don't get it. I had an '85 and it did the same thing. But you say yours doesn't do it. Sooo, now I don't know.. do you think maybe it could exhaust leak???

Does your car have vacuum operated heater controls?

cctxfish 05-24-2005 01:43 PM

I beat its a vac leak either the a/c control or brake booster. Try disconnecting each one at a time and pluging them, then check for the noise. good luck

mybeast87 05-26-2005 04:54 PM

Hmmm...thanx I will try that.

cctxfish 05-30-2005 01:27 PM

The vac to the a/c is color coded the black is the feed. You can find on the outside pass. side in engine compart. there is 2 hose to in/out of firewall. One goes to the heater hose valve. the other to a vac dist. on firewall or intake manifold. The later one is the one you want to remove and plug.

You know that would make some sense because there is a water leak somewhere by the heater core, but Im not to sure where. But it only leaks when I have been driving it for a while. So I don't know, I will get to the bottom of it eventually.

cctxfish 06-01-2005 07:04 PM

Amanda,
The water leak sounds like you have a clugged a/c condensation drain. Let me guess it also only leak if a/c is on and if you drive for a while. If this is so, it is a very easy fix. Find the drain hose under vehicle on pass. side, and use a small pick to remove any abstrusion. Then use air hose to blown clean, see if this helps.

mybeast87 06-01-2005 10:55 PM

Hmm....but I don't use my a/c. I live in Indiana, you don't need a/c. I dunno, it doesn't do it all the time. I will firgure it out one day I guess. I don't have a garage to actually work on my car so...I cant really do much to it.f

cctxfish 06-02-2005 02:14 PM

Then its a gremline

mybeast87 06-02-2005 07:02 PM

That is an awesome definition did you make that up or is it actually in a dictionary somewhere?

mybeast87 06-04-2005 01:19 PM

LoL, so my car is a SMALL mischievous gnome?? Well, maybe the gnome part but I don't know about SMALL. I would have to say that my marquis or any marquis for that matter, is small. Ok, except maybe the newer ones, they are smaller than the older ones. But Ya know, I like the older ones better than the newer ones. I like the old body style better. Plus to many old people drive the newer ones. Even though, they do drives the older ones.

Got some chrome valve covers?? I am going to get some. Like 30 bucks off Ebay. Pretty cheap, I'd say. Well, I'm done for now.

Patrick 06-04-2005 01:52 PM

the newer ones seem to rank right up there with newer buicks for older folks..i wonder why that is....

mybeast87 06-04-2005 04:01 PM

Maybe it's just cuz they are inexpensive and good on gas. I don't know, I don't even know if they are good on gas, but I bet they are better than mine. Mine is a gas guzzler.

I think it may definitely be related to the A/C system. My A/C on my 2003 GM LS was out of freon and when I took it to the shop to refill it, I started to hear a slight hissing noise coming from behind the dash on the passenger side whenever I turned off the car after having used the A/C.
