Related problem, safety belt alarm on at any time driver door is open, even with no keys in ignition or any lights on. This problem developed after changing the turn signal switch at the mechanic. Not going back to the dumbass (who knows what else he finds wrong, this was his second and final mistake), any suggestions ? Did he steal my airbag ?

1990/91 Mercury Grand Marquis LS.

sounds like he may not have connected everything back up correctly in the steering column when he put it back together. That, or a relay has stuck on. stolen airbag wouldn''t do anything like that. at worst, nothing would be noticeable with a stolen airbag. at best, the airbag light would be on all the time. There may also be something laying loose inside the steering column that may be shorting something. might just take the shroud off (top and bottom covers) and see if there''s something obvious.

FYI, I checked on that and disarming the seatbelt warning DOES NOT deactivate the air bags. You need to remove fuses in order to deactivate them seeing how Ford does not want to make it easy for the bag to be turned off.

Default How to get the seat belt chime/ warning bell to stop going off.

First go under your seat. Second look at the bottom of you seat belt lock for some wiring coming out of it. Three follow the wire until you find where it is plugged in at. and four unplug the wire. this should stop the chime from going off.
