Ok, so something really weird is happening, my car is like revving up to like somewhere between 500 and 1000 I dont really know cuz I donjt have a tack, but itll do it several times. It will just rev and then idle rev idle rev idle it makes me crazy...anyone know what could be wrong??

Sounds like your air idle control valve, try removing it and cleaning it, also clean the trottlebody

Hmm, and where is that?? The air idle control valve?? Never even heard of it. What do I clean it with??Edited by: mybeast87

The usual symptom for a bad or faulty Air idle control valve is inability to keep it the vehicle running. If you let off the gas it dies. I tried to clean mine with Carb cleaner to no avail and replced it. About $60 bucks and super easy to do. On my Mountaineer it sits right on the top of the engine, not sure about your rig.


But to me, it sounds like something else.

id say maybe a vacuum leak somewhere or possilby intake gaskets?

Hmm, well, the car doesnt die though. It's like I'm giving it gas but it is just not going any faster. I know its not the tgranny cuz we just replaced that not to long ago.

Look at the EGR valve also. WHen dirty it can act like a bad vacuum leak.

Egr valve mounting position varies but it can be found by looking at the intake manifold. I'd say to look at rear of intake for a cast iron bodied valve with a vacuum actuator on top of it with possibly another position sensor switch mounted to it as well. There should be two nuts or bolts holding it to the intake. To verify if it is leaking you will need to remove the EGR valve from the engine. Visually inspect the inside for excess carbon build up or other deposits. You might be able to remove some deposits by carb cleaner spray and an old tooth brush.


To check if it is leaking, simply blow against one side of the openings by mouth and see it you can blow through the valve. If you can, it will need to be replaced.


If you cant blow through it, you might want to try replacing the EGR psoition sensor. Some time if it goes bad or gets out of calibration it can cause rough idles and surging.


You might want to check the gasket under it for leaks before removing the valve. Just get a small spray water bottle and when the engine is idling and surging, spray at the base of the EGR valve where it mounts to the intake manifold. If the surging stops when you spray water at the base, you may have a vacuum leak at the gasket.


Either way, you will probably need to replace the gasket when you remove the EGR valve to inspect it.
