Keyless Entry

I have 2 questions. 1. I have a GM GS with out a keyless entry fob. It has power locks though. If it did not come with a fob, can a fob be programmed or is it missing the necessary hardware for keyless entry? 2. I want to make a new key and I read that you can have one cut and program it yourself. Is this true?

Hey, I had a similar question. For your question with the key. Yes you can have any locksmith cut it and you can program the chip by yourself as long as you have at least 1 already programmed key. Essentially you put your working key in the ignition and turn it on and off a few times and flip some switches then put your new key in and its programmed. Search the net for the exact instructions. Just be careful because if you screw up you might deactivate your working key.

I have 2002 mercury grand marquis I got used at the dealer. I have power everything and just bought the remote online. I'm having trouble figuring out how to program it and how to tell if my car can even accept a remote. Does anyone know how I can find it if a remote will work with my car? The instructions I found to program it say either turn the key from off to run 8 times in under 10 secs or 4 times in under 3 secs and the doors should lock and unlock to confirm you did it right. Then your suppose to push any button on the remote and it's programmed. I can't get it to happen. The doors never lock or unlock to confirm I did the steps right? Can anyone help me with this?

Oh if it matters I also DO NOT have the keypad on my doors like some do.
