Question Loose Shifter

My gear shift lever has a lot of play in it, it still operates fine but know its only going to get worse. I have inspected the Torx screws which hold the cable bracket to end of shift shaft and they are tight. It seems as though the problem is the bushing or bushings on the shaft. My question is has anyone ever replaced these bushings and how hard of a task is it ? I'm not sure if the shaft must be totally removed or the bushings can be slipped in around the shaft.

I talked to my mechanic about this issue earlier today and he told me that he had replaced the bushings on the shaft before, and it's not an overly-complicated job. It is just time consuming (expect to spend anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour of your time to repair it). I found this little guide on the Internet (however, it does cost $12.95 to view). It may give you some better advice as to replacing the necessary components.

Hope this helped!
