This is about 2 common issues, have been discussed on here before.

1.) the "moaning" noise (see other posts)

2.) erratic idle and stalling

There is a new TSB out there, applies to all models 1992 through 2003 or '04. I will get a copy tomorrow, then we know for sure.

It calls for inspection and eventually replacement of the "air-injection-pump". Whatever, something new now LOL

I happened to find out about that yesterday, when my colleges car was brought to the shop, because of stalling and erratic idle. He had them fix it, $175 for the pump, they got it from the dealer.

Will post details once I have them. Mine is going in tomorrow to, because of the moaning noise. Have the dealer check out the whole system, just to be sure. Parts can be bought about 60% cheaper aftermarket, see other posts.

Yep, it's the IACV (IdleAirControlValve), sometimes refered to as AirBypassValve, the box says "Throttle Bypass Valve".

Around $55 brand new:

See my original post, the TSB is about thedifferent causes, all related to the same part.

A work colleague of mine just had the same issue, with the stalling, a '02 MGM, same part replaced, all fixed now. Paid around $240 at a NoName shop (I was quoted around $175 at the dealer). See, sometimes dealers are not that bad (sometimes). LOL

Have you been drinking today? Seems like you're missing quite a bit.

I'm sorry. Did you have it for long? Strange thing, isn't it? Once you have an animal for a while, it truly becomes a family member.

My issues, after they re-tightened the bolts, are much better. I still have a slight missing when under load and in overdrive, but idle and starting issues are gone.

The noise almost disappeared, now that it's colder. I'm currently doing research on where the item is located on our cars, I found sources for the part itself already.

Will let you know.

Greetings!

I have a 1991 Grand Marquis which "lopes" at low idle and then dies.

How do I determine if the IACV is bad?
