I put on a "cold air" intake on my 97 grand marquis about 6 months ago. I got a check engine light and got the code read, was p0171 system too lean, so i tryed cleaning my MAF sensor with the cleaner, cleaned the throttle body. I found out that my MAF sensor had gone bad...does anyone think that was because of the intake? and also after i replace the MAF should I just get another stock one...or maybe put the stock air box back on??? someone help me out please?!

how did you find out the MAF was bad? if it is bad, get a new one and reset the computer by unhooking the battery for a few minutes and see if it gives a code.if it gives the same code put the stock air system back on and reset the computer again.a prosess of elimination.

I had a similar issue with the cold air intake on my 92, cleaned the MAF screen and unhooked the batt. and reset the computer. no more check engine.

Cold Air Ducting

I saved a lot of time and money on the so-called "cold air intake" fad.
On 1995 Grand Marquis, but also works on many other years of Crown Vics and Grand Marquis :
1.- Un-latch the top of the stock air box and remove the filter.
2.- Remove the air box from the fender liner.
3.- Remove the "snorkel" from the air box. The snorkel is 1.75 in. Inside Diameter - you CANNOT get much air thru that tiny opening !!
4.- Add a piece of 3-inch I.D. flexible aluminum clothes dryer hose to extend from the air box, forward to the hole in the radiator support.
5. While the air box is open, clean the MAF sensor, using CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner.
6.- Cut a piece of 1/4th-inch Hardware Cloth to fit over the hole in the radiator support -- keeps out low-flying birds.
7.- Put it all back together, using a new (or PROPERLY cleaned and oiled) K&N filter.

You are NOW ducting cooler air from forward of the hot engine compartment, without all the noise.
