Question about 2009-2010 Grand Marquis

I am curently looking to buy a used Mercury Grand Marquis,i have a question to which unfortunately i could not find an answer anywhere over the internet. My question is about the v8 modular engines in the latest years 2009 and 2010, do they have the same famous spark plug problems as previous modular engines from 1991 to 2008. I know it is very expensive to repair if the problem occurs. Thank you |
Was not aware the 4.6L modular had a spark plug issue. I know the 5.4L did on some year models but those motors were in the F150 and some 250's.
The best approach to any plug change out in an aluminum head is to let the plug well set over night with a good penetrant. Blow it out when you get ready to change the plugs and they'll usually just fall out. Apply removal torque easy though. Be sure to torque to specs on the install. I think this is where most problems occur if the plug is over torqued! |
As far as i know the 4.6 is effected as well. Thank you for your reply i will have that in mind.

the newer modular engines run coil packs at each individual plug compared to the earlier modular engines that had only 2 coil packs runnin 4 plugs each...
|
Thank you for your answer,so for what year they changed to individual coil packs?
