rear end sway

2000 grand marquis 150k miles, has a rear end sway to it, but im not sure were to start on this. Can anyone give me some starting points to look at, and how to check the rear end.

I just changed out the front ball joints idler arm an pitman arm, which really tightened up the front alot. When i took it in for an alignment the mechanic also said he could feel the rear swayin on the test drive but thats all he would say, guy wasnt very helpful, lol.

Thanks

How are the tires on it? I just bought a 98 MGM Park Lane edition and I had this problem for a few days. Last Friday I had a read tire blow out on the highway when the sidewall let go. 2 tires later and a 4 wheel alignment and no more sway.

tires are good, how did you get a 4 wheel alignment?, they told me there was no adjustments to the rear and only can do a front end. caus thats what i originally wanted

There are no adjustments on the rear but they can check for component damage/wear. There are measurements they can check to verify that everything it in alignment with the front and tracking properly. I think this is called a thrust alignment.

I really didn't need a 4 wheel alignment but had it done since this car is new to me.

hit up junkyards or somebody here can for you and find a police rear sway bar for you... i know there are retired cop cars here around me ... so i am guaranteed to get one if needed.. probably cost me $25 to get along with shipping additional... if needed i can get the sway bar for you and get pictures to show where it bolts up and stuff... i know my older model does not use link pins in rear, but if yours requires, go to the auto store and get link pins that have poly bushings instead of weaker rubber
