I just picked up an '06 MGM GS.


It's bottom of the line, so has no keypad/remote entry capability.


Is the Driver's Door Module the same on all MGMs? Can I buy the remotes and program them to work? Then I would have remote entry, just no keypad.

 

Hi, cpeschka. My feeling is to add remote entry into any car requires the car to be equipped with electric door locks. If you have no power door locks, then it will cost you extra to install them first. The dealer will likely be your best source. You can also try a shop that specializes in car alarms.

But I know that Crown Vics offer remote entry on cars that don't have the electronic keypad, which leads me to believe that the Driver's Door Module is the same for the two door types.


If it's the same for them, why not just keep the same DDM for all Panthers, regardless of whether or not it has remote locks.


I guess it's obvious I don't work for Ford, huh?

If you have power locks (which are I believe standard on the ''06 anyway), you can "simply" connect the keypad. Of course you have to cut an opening into the door. Or you buy the original (or aftermarked) ones with stick-on tape.


I installed the original one once before, took us only about 1 hour. The harness at the keypad had sort of a T-connectore, so fit right in between the original male/female part.


Remote, the one with the keychain transmitter, is going to be very expensive. You have to purchase the receiver module which is installed in the car, plus the remotes. Then you have to run the wiring.


Aftermarket would be cheaper.


However, I have only a keypad, you can''t get into the car without breaking in unless you have the code. If I loose my key, you still wont know which car it is.


If you have a remote entry (transmitter), it''s all yours. And don''t worry about to which car it goes, just press the alarm button, and the vehicle will call you. [img]smileys/smiley2.gif[/img]
