Spontaneous all systems shutdown!
 

My 2002 Grand Marquis is trying to kill me! From time to time, without warning (except for an erratic turn signal) and at any speed or outside condition, the car will suddenly lose all motive and electrical power, thus disabling not only the engine but power steering and brakes. Yikes!

Local mechanics are baffled. In response to their various suggestions, I have replaced the ECU, fuel pump, crankshaft position sensor and A/C compressor but the dangerous problem persists. I can get the stalled vehicle restarted by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes though it will occasionally get going again without a battery disconnect. Nevertheless, I need to correct this failure or junk this otherwise bulletproof Merc. This must have happened to someone else. Has anyone found a solution?
