Suspension knock

I have 1992 Grand Marquis with 185K miles, its A car I love and will probably put another 100K plus (put 314K on A Crown victoria). The problem I am having is a knock somewhere in the suspension. When you hit the slightest bump it knocks. My mechanic hears it but cannot find anything. Nothing is looose, the shocks are fine, front suspension solid. Any ideas?

Thanks much

jack up car with hood raised... use jack under the lower control arm then when tire is in air shake tire side to side and up and down... get a helper to do this and look under hood at the control arm bushings and check ball joints too... many times the knocking is the control arm bushings... had a 1992 with over 330,xxx miles on it and it needed them. when i went to get parts the car was rearended and considered totaled. also while doing this, check the tie rods... jacking the car up under the control arms is only way to check... NOT lifting car in air and checking...
