Tachometer?
So I'm looking into getting a 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis, but one of my biggest pet peeves is not having the RPM meter. It's not a huge deal, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas where I could order one from, whether it's an entirely new cluster or just a gauge I can put on top of the dash/attached to the A strut inbetween the windshield and driver's side window. No promises on getting it, but I'm looking at Cougars and Grand Marquises so I'll need some advice either way.
Thanks, MT. |
I dont think any that old came with a tach, maybe a Crown Vic had an option for it. Might just have to get a little 1 and mount it up somewhere.

No, there's no stock tach in the cluster, which is why I'm asking. Maybe there was a special ultra-luxury version that I could get one out of at a junk yard, OR (and this is what I'm leaning towards more) if there were any good, not too-expensive aftermarket ones I could get and install on the A-strut and run a wire to a tach box, if they have them

I know there isnt a factory tach. Im saying maybe a Crown Vic has 1. A ultra luxury version would be a Lincoln Town Car. There is a spot to hook the tach to as its a 4.6L and they have coil packs. You would have to google where to hook it up too.

Get a sunpro Tach from your local Advance or Autozone. They cost at max 40 dollars. May take two hours to install if you want a clean install. Did it on my 92. Make sure it doesn't block your instrument cluster.http://s1005.photobucket.com/albums/...=436300252.jpg

It's unlikely you will find a dash pod with a factory tach. To install an aftermarket tach into any distributorless ignition system you need a tach adapter like this one:

Not SURE that it's swappable, but an instrument cluster from a Marauder has a proper (0-7,000 RPM) tach.
E-bay has one today (3/1/20) for 100 bucks. Most aftermarket tachs go to 8,000 rpms, which is SILLY for a Grand Marquis -- your mildly-modified engine will never see 6,000 rpms. The 2003 - 2004 Marauder instrument cluster SHOULD BE swappable, if you can find one. Good luck !! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mer...f27ccadd45.jpg Custom Dual Exhaust Exits; Superior Tips |
