Traction control on ABS equipped models
#1
I noticed recently that many list a "traction control" as an option on the MGM.
Since the manual/brochure doesn't really tell details about it, I consulted the original Mercury shop manual and happened to find out, that all models equipped with Anti-lock-Brakes have traction control as well.
The Anti-lock-brake system actually works in reverse and acts like a traction control. If one wheel spins, the system applies brake pressure to just this caliper in order to slow it down dramatically. Therefor, the torque coming from the drive-shaft will increasingly go to the wheel not spinning, and eventually pull you out of whatever you are in.
Interesting to know to have this feature. Yes, it's a nice summer, but winter is coming, my first one with this car, and it makes me feel a little bit better about driving it in the snow.
Greetings!

Thank you for the clarification.

Question now is: Does it work if your ABS light is flashing?
If the ABS light is flashing, the Anti-lockfunction is disengaged, thus your brakes are still working normally.
But, if the system (when working properly) does release and apply brake pressure for the Anti-lock function to work, and opposite (applying and releasing brake pressure for the traction control), wouldn't it then be completely nonfunctional when the ABS light is on?
I think so, I can't really see how the computer manages anything if it indicated an error.
Yep, the manual sure says that the ABS function is disabled when the light is flashing. However, did not find anything at all about the traction control.
Greeting!
