Trunk Lift Support Conversion

This is actually a question to help my friends parents out. They have a 2004 Grand Marquis. The rod set up in the trunk to help open it broke. It doesnt look like a very safe set up and when it broke, it made a loud bang as the spring tension released. Im trying to find out if anyone has converted the trunk to use the gas charged lift supports? My friends parents are scared of using the factory rod set up and I think it broke some of the actual body sheet metal when the rods let loose. Her mom is barely 5' tall and maybe 100 lbs and the trunk lid is too heavy for her to open with some kind of assistance. They have been using a piece of pvc pipe to hold the trunk open, but Im afraid that might fall and drop the trunk lid on her and hurt her. Has anyone done this conversion? Is there a kit for this? I searched and cant find anything about it. Does anyone know of anything that will work?

Anyone? Someone else must have had this problem or realized the mechanism is unsafe and decided to fix it.

I figured it out and made it myself. It looks and works like it came from the factory that way.
