What would make my Headlights go off by themselves

When I put the headlights on, they go on and stay on for a few minutes. Then, they just go off. After driving 20 mins they would come on again, then go off.
Its a 2003 Grand marquis GS.

Anyone know what to check?

I been using the high beems for night driving but I have to manually pull the high beem lever and hold it.

Is it possible to rig up a toggle switch to bypass the switch?

All help is appreciated....

Your LCM (lighting control module) has a defective relay. Unfortunately, it is a too common failure in these cars. A new one from Ford will be $400, or you could get a rebuilt one off eBay. Here is the link:

If you can solder, there are wasys to replace the relay, or jumper in an aux relay. Here is the link:

I have had good feedback off the eBay rebuilds. I may even buy one myself as a spare.

Let us know how you make out! Take care, Bill

Thanks very much Bill.

Is there any way to just put regular light bulbs into the High been slot and keep the brights on?

Im riding with the brights on now. Would rather not but no choice.

Just be careful doing this. This could be probable cause for the men in blue to pull you over.

Just wondering..
is there a chance the problem is with the turn signal lever.
When I move the lever sometimes the lights go on and stay on.
