those of you wondering what to use as a cold air intake for there 86-91 Grand Marquis cars. what i have seen that works best is a 1990-1993 Acura Integra cold air intake setup. i got mine for around $30 each off of ebay. you have to cut/modify them a lil bit. i cut the tube off past the bracket welded on it and cut it off past the 2 tube pipe things on it also. here is a pic of how it turned out.

I just rednecked the intake on my MGM.

Home Depot Parts:

2x - 3" adjustable 90 degree angle vent pipe $8.49 each

2x - 3" no hub couplers from the plumbing section $3.88 each

1x - 4" to 3" adapter from plumbing $1.97

Autozone:

1x - Specter Chrome universal cone air filter $24.99

All told I spent just shy of $60 on this. Already had the duck tape. Though I had to buy some tin snips. That added $11. but I''ll use those for other projects as well.

bent it to shape after trimming the outer pipe of the vent pipe (double walled stuff) and then used a c-clamp to flaten out all the sharp edges from the trimming and duck-taped the works together once I got the angles right for the fit to hold everything in place and prevent leaks along the seems.

i thought of a way to get my filter setup to breathe in fresh air. i swapped in a slotted bumper and now thinking of cutting access hole for ducting the air in bumper up toward the filter. just need ducting rising from back of the bumper to the filter area and block off the other side to push more air to the filter side. that way people cant tell me it isnt receiving fresh air and call it a hot air intake.

I was thinking of cutting the washer/coolant tank in half and relocating the coolant part and just extending the ducting to behind the headlamps. Still trying to work out the best location for the coolant tank though.

go to junkyard and get a 1990 fan shroud that has the coolant reservoir mounted to it and get a aero body washer reservoir to mount to the area where the relays are. with that stuff, all you have to do is move the relays to a different spot and opens up all the area behind the headlights.

ok... done cut the bugger in half... here's the pics. Also installed a "hot air shield" of sorts next to the filter. won't stop it breathing hot air, just won't be near as much.

ok... I finally broke down and got the K&N Apollo (and may modify it eventually with a larger snorkel hose).

And there you have it. And I can still drive in water up to the grill and not drown the engine.
