Just wondering if anyone has had any major transmission problems with their Mariner. I currently own a 2000 Explorer. Already replaced the transmission once. Had trouble last fall with OD off light flashing due to wiring issue and 2 days ago OD light is on again. Am rather sick of dealing with it and don't want another vehicle that may give me the same problems.

I may be biased, because I amLincoln Mercury dealer, but it is a Mercury Forum. Everyone here is probably biased. And before anyone starts yelling spam, I''m not trying to sell anything and this guy probably lives thousands of miles from me!

The Mariner is a very reliable vehicle. The transmission in the Mariner has been around for a while now. I have not had a single customer with a transmission issue on the Mariner. I mean usually the engine blows up way before the transmission goes out. LOL. I''m just kidding. They are great vehicles. I have had a lot of Explorer and Mountaineer owners trade for them. They offer comparable interior room, are dependable, versitile, and do much better on gas. Personally, I feel the Mariner is the best value in it''s segment. It is much more refined than the other vehicles it competes with. Around here, the 2008 models are nearly gone, so there are big incentives on them. There are a few changes for the 2009 model. I don''t have the exact list infornt of me, by the addition of Sync is probably the biggest one.

2009 Mariner and 2009 Escape

We now have the 09 Mariner to tow behind our motorhome.

First let me tell you our story. Last April - 2009 - we bought the new Ford Escape. On our first trip we towed it about 500 miles, and the transmission burned out. Yes, we followed the manual. Ford replaced it, and we went another 800 miles, no trouble. A month later the car was rear ended, and totaled. So, we bought the 09 Mariner. Here we are on our first RV trip with it. This time we made it 150 miles, and smelled the tranny going!!!

It is now at a Ford Dealer.

We are not happy.
