I have an ''02 Mountaineer AWD 4.6L...I beleive that my front cv joint (or cv joint bearings) are bad: it makes a popping noise when I turn and rocks a little during sharp turns. Also, my rear passenger side drive axle is broke, I believe. I am having a very hard time finding these parts (rear drive axle). I don''''t have the $$ to purchase them new or from a dealarship. I have a friend who is a mechanic, so I just need to find the parts. Anyone know somewhere in the Louisville, KY area??? Does anyone else have these or similar problems? And does anyone know what years and/or other makes & models are interchangeable for these parts????? I am in need of serious advise, as every shop wants $$$$$$ just for advise. Please help a fellw MountaineerER.... Edited by: bonifacioaleman

I have located the rear drive axle for my Mountaineer. I have it parked until my buddy can put it on for me. Pretty sure that the drive axle is what is broke. The last time I drove it, I was on the expressway and periodically, it would just swirl over the road! I pulled over and the wheel it cocked at an angle, and there was slight smoke coming from the wheel assembly, and the horendous grinding noise coming from the wheel. What would make this break like this?? Does it sound like the drive axle, or something else? I''ve found the drive axle for $100 and my buddy is will install for $100. Thanx for your advise on this matter....

oh yeah, I have another question: what year Mountaineers have parts that will interchange with mine? It is ''02 AWD, 4.6L v8......

I can''t remember the Mntnr. getting a major make over in its lifetime which makes me think alot of parts. (4.6/AWD is the only way it has ever come. I THINK) But, you always have to compare the part #''s to be sure.
