1998 mountaineer randomly overheats
 

my mountaineer has been randomly overheating, sometimes it will go all the way to its top heat then regulate back to ins normal temp again, sometimes it will overheat and stay hot, some people tell me its my thermostat or could be my water pump, if anyone knows anything else it could be please tell me
