I just got a 2000 Mountaineer this weekend and the precheck system after you turn the key forward, everything lights up but the EBrake light. So I pulled the dash whiched the bulbs and still nothing, then I noticed that, when you push the EBrake the cables move, but nothing is holding the vehicle. Thinking about jacking the back end up and check, but I''ve never worked on rear disc brakes before, all my vehicles before this one had rear drums. Not sure what to do....

Thanks!!!

there should be a contact sensor (or some such) on the e-brake assembly. if that has become disconnected or damaged, the brake light on the dash will not light up. the pre-check system does not light that light on most vehicles I''ve ever driven. it only lights up if the brake is actually engaged.
