2002 Mountaineer Radio Removal

My current cd is not working and I'm looking to replace with a unit purchased on E-Bay. How is the radio removed and as important is how do I check to determine if my radio is a ID 1L2F-18C815-BA thru BD, which is what I see on E-Bay but can't determine which model I have without removal?

You gotta remove it to check the model number. If you have two holes on either side of the radio, those should be the removal holes. if you get some long nails just smaller around than the holes or the proper radio removal tool (U shaped tool that fits into both holes on one side at the same time) you should be able to slide it out with minimal trouble (some wiggling side to side may be required initially).

Removal of plastic frame around radio

What's the best method to remove the plastic surrounding the radio in order to use the u-tool to remove the radio? I don't want to crack or break the plastic.

Thanks for the info on determining the type of radio.

that, I'm not sure of. I've never seen that setup in person. If you can find a chiltons or haynes repair manual for your vehicle, it will tell you exactly how to get that out. If you can see the holes on either side, you probably don't have to remove the surround. most of them will pull out with the surround still in place. sometimes it does take some encouragement (muscle) to get it out. But don't take my word on it.
