Default 2004 Mountaineer Passive Alarm

My family is thinking of purchasing a 2004 Mountaineer Premier and I have been doing some research online to see if it is a car that we would be interested in. In all of my looking the only thing that sounds like a problem is that if the battery goes dead or is disconnected the passive alarm will be set off and new keys will have to be programmed. I was wondering if this was true and if so is there a way to keep this from happening.

Thanks,
Vinnie
