Antenna in windshield
Does any one know what the purpose of the antenna on the drivers side of the windshield is for? Is this for the key FOBs or I have also heard that it is for a remote start. I bought a 01 V8 Mountaineer with 90000 and it did not come with key FOBs and it does not say in the owners manual what it is. Any knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated.
The antenna you describe is just like the one for my factory remote start on my 04 Mountaineer. Check under the dash to the left of the steering column and see if there's a module labeled'remote start' or something to that nature......mine does. If so, then I would check into getting key fobs so you can use it. When I bought mine (used) from a Mecury dealer, he failed to mention the fact that it had a remote start. I found it accidently by playing around with the key fob buttons.......
What do your key FOBs look like? The guy at the dealership said he only had 3 button FOBs and they are for panic, lock, and unlock. Did you have to specifically ask about the remote start? Thanks for your info, I plan to try and figure this out in the morning!
I didn't know that it had a remote start when I purchased the vehicle used from a Mercury dealer back in July. Itis a'Premier' model.I think it's an add-on option. The dealer didn't even now that it had it....I found out afew days later by accident.
It has 4 buttons:
Top left (black button) is a padlock (locks the doors)
Top right (black button) is the unlocked padlock (unlocks doors/hold down for a few secondsto unlock hatch)
Bottom left (red button) has a magnifying glass and a horn symbol
Bottom right (blue button) is a key symbol (remotely starts car after holding down for about 5-10 seconds - lights also flash once before it starts).
Hope this helps....
