Well we bought the 98 mountaineer that we were looking at. Got a great deal on it but there is 1 problem I am trying to decifer.

I have an idea on what it is but just wanted to see the forums response to verify what I am thinking.

When you accelerate hard and sometimes when you take off there is a klunk (one time only and only during these times). With normal accelration and driving it is like on a cloud.

Please respond back as I am not fully understanding how this awd system works. Is it all the time awd or does it engage.

I am thinking u-joint or cv shaft?

Thanks,

Ed and Kathy

Is the vehicle a V-6 or V-8 Is it is a V-6 you have the option of turning 4wd on or off if it is a v-8 it's all time AWD.

As for the clunk its hard to say there are alot of things that can cause that do you have a general area where the noise is coming from?

It is the 5.0 v8 sodoes the AWD always stay engaged or does it go off and on itself?

The Klunk feels like it is coming from front drivers side.

Thanks,
