Suspension Rock and Roll

On my 2004 Merc Mount AWD V8; I had purchased this used with 35k on it a few months ago.
I'm not satisfied with the front or rear suspension in terms of of being too cushy, too mushy or too soft. When I go over a bump or hump in the road, it seems to bounce up and down a little to much. Like when you try to check shocks on a car and your bounce it up and down, this Mountaineer seems to bounce a little to much.
A few months ago I had replaced the front shocks thinking that would solve the problem on the front end, but it did not make difference. I was about to do the rear shocks too but since the replacement of the front shocks did not solve the problem I decided not waste the bucks on that idea again.
Has anyone noticed this mushy rock and roll problem? What do you think, springs maybe?
