Default Vibration at 60 MPH AWD Moutaineer

Hello all:

I have a pretty strong vibration that starts right at 60 MPH on my 2005 Mountaineer 4.6 AWD. I had the tires balanced, which did not solve it. I find it interesting that I don't feel the vibration when towing a trailer....so what's the best way to troubleshoot this thing??

check the tires for flat spots and proper pressure. the sidewall seem can cause vibration when the tires are not properly inflated. Check the engine mounts and transmission mounts. I wouldn't think that a 2005 would have the mounts worn out already, but it's worth checking. also, check the shocks. if one has gone bad, it'll cause weird vibrations like that.
