98 mystique LS overheating
i finds myself in a situation where my car overheats when I traffic or a standstill. I replaced the radiator and reservoir tank (got the 4 cylinder version since I was told it worked). I have some smoke that comes out from under the hood when it gets in the A in the NORMAL writing on the temp guage. I use to be able to hear my fan come on but either it’s quieter or not working. I literally have no way of checking what it could be. Anybody have recommendations or what it could be? Thanks in advance!

Your temperature should not get to the "A" in "Normal"--.
Check for coolant leaks around the Water Pump area. If it's leaking, it MUST be replaced. Get a Motorcraft water pump -- the cheap ones don't last !!
Check to make SURE that the electric fan comes "ON" when engine gets to the "A".-- if the fan doesn't come on, it may be a fuse or the fan motor has conked out.
If the electric fan is working, you will need to flush the cooling system and install the CORRECT Motorcraft thermostat.
Fill with 50/50 mix of ethylene glycol and distilled water.
Your temp gauge should point between the "R" and the "M" when the engine is at operating temperatures.
4-cylinder engine = Water Pump - Motorcraft #PW 368 --- Thermostat - RT1150
V-6 engine = Water Pump - Motorcraft #PW 563 --- Thermostat - RT1131
