I just got a sweet deal on a 94 cougar, only catch is ...no stereo and a bunch of cut wires, I can buy a harness and resauder, however isn''t there a built in amp somewhere, where is it located, how do I bypass it.

If the factory harness is not there, you may have to run new wires all around unless you want to ring out all the wires and figure out positive and negative for each speaker.

as for the factory amp. IF there is one, it''s usually mounted in the trunk on the back of the rear seats or under the dash near the radio hole - usually one side or the other. (this is from experience with crown vics and a few other cars with premium sound systems, and may be different with the cougar) If it''s under the dash, you should be able to trace the wires from the radio hole to it. if it is in the trunk, you should be able to trace the speaker wires back to it.

either way, it may not actually have been equipped with an amp. Do the factory speaker grills say "Premium Sound"? If not, it probably doesn''t have the amp.

the easiest way to bypass any amp would be to run new wires.

anyways, happy hunting.
