Help !!! Own 1998 Mercury Mountaineer that is leaking coolant. I have replaced the thermostat, water pump (which was not fun) all of the hoses. The leak appears to coming from near water pump which is why i replaced it in the first place. Filling the radiator causes the coolant to leak really bad. Did i miss a hose or something that needs to be replaced. Or do you think the block or freeze plugs are out of the vehicle?

does it have the 5.0 in it? it could more than likely be the timing chain cover that the ater pump attaches to and has channels for coolant that could be leaking.

It does have the 5.0L in it. Something intresting happened i blew air into the radiator i could hear the problem area it seems to be on or near the right front engine area. Noticed a trickle of coolant but still could not determine exactly where she is leaking from. I'll start checking my Haynes manuel for the timing chain cover. Is that an easy fix ?

if you are going to be doing the timing chain cover gasket, i would replace the timing chain and gears since you will have the cover ripped off.... you will need to pull the crank pulley off ontop of removing the water pump that was just installed. after doing the timing chain cover gasket, CHANGE YOUR OIL!! since there is oil allowed in the timing chain area, you do not need the coolant in your oil pan and wash the main bearings off causing premature wear.
