Newbie to this forum... oldie on the net at large... been haunting net places since the mid 90s. I just acquired my 88 MGM from my dad back in August and he had recently acquired it from one of his cousins (we seem to be keeping it in the family). Great car so far. Tranny fluid/filter change, replaced the plugs in the rear window motors, front rotors(re: hubs, bearings, seals), and pads, some vacuum lines and random little bits (muffler blew up and was subsequently replaced... will post). For a 20 yo car that''s not been taken car of too much and sat up for a while... it''s doing rather well. It still wins the argument with the tires too (though I should probably take it easy on that one so I''m not buying tires too often).
I''ve been a car nut since I was old enough to hold hot wheels/matchbox cars in my hands. I love seeing what I can do to make things better than OEM too (this is not limited to much of anything either). The current idea/project I''m thinking about is the gear shift indicator... the linkage is missing, the catch on the shifter is broken... so I was thinking of placing contact switches just right to trigger LEDs on the indicator. Will post pics if I actually do it (though this may not be any time soon since I know the feel of that shifter so well now that I don''t need to see it to know what gear it''s in). But this should give some an idea of what I''m like.Edited by: slymer |
Hello New Member: I see you have a white car like one of my other Mercs,Mines a 1987 with 218,000 miles on here and she dont puff out any smoke and has never been taken apart.. Thanks for joining the forums: WheelMaster |
mines only got about 102K on it. but runs like a champ. The tranny is a little stiff on overdrive (doesn''t like to downshift by one) unless you floor it to make it down shift 2. of course it doesn''t like down shifting by one from any other gear either. It will shift normal up through the gears and really loves the open road.
