fuel shut-off on my Ranger
 

My new commute has taken me 109 miles onto lovely Interstate 95 and I feel like a Yugo at Talladega. It is governed because it is an ex-phone company truck and has a fuel shut-off. I need to know if I can disconnect it safely and how to do so. I've heard yes and no, and ten different ways to do it. Does anyone have knowledge in removing/disconnecting one of these suckers? Thanks guys. Oh yeah, it's a 4 banger if it makes a difference.

there's so many types of governors out there, you may need to be more specific on what type it is. I've seen mechanical (throttle and vacuum limiters), electrical (same as the mechanical, just using servos), complete control systems (engine computer replacements - these are real buggers to remove if it uses anything other than stock wiring, but can be the easiest to remove simply by replacing the ECM with a regular stock one), and then variations on those themes.

if it's just a speed sensor connected to a control box that controls the metering valve, just replace the metering valve with a stock one and cut the system out. From your description though, it might be more complicated than that. Take pics and point out what is what if you can. we'll try to figure this thing out. You could also call the company that modified the truck to find out who they got to do the modification and maybe find out from them how to take it off.

thanks sly. I know it shuts the fuel off to the engine at the governed speed and that is factory. I just thought someone might have dealt with it before. I'll live at my current top speed I guess. Maybe live longer, too. LOL! with fuel on the rise again I guess I'm getting better mpg anyway.
