lost my keys...

i only had 1 trunk key for my 94 Grand Marquis, and the trunk pop button is in the "locked" position. What should I be lookin at for an automotive-locksmith to make me a replacement key for my car?

any locksmith worth their salt should be able to make a key for you. You don't have to have an automotive one. Best bet is to call around out of the yellow pages and see what the local places charge for that kinda thing.

they need a certain machine to make the key. If you notice, a house key only has a jagged side, where as a car key, both sides are jagged. I was told it shouldn't be more than $75...I still think that's 2 much.. I was thinking of trying to hot wire it with a fuse between the batt. What you think?

since you don't have a key to make a copy from, they have to read the pins in the lock (usually requires removing a lock from the car and taking it apart). The double sided line is BS since both sides are exactly the same. It does take some time which is the bulk of the charge. Labor isn't cheap.

you think I could just give them the trunk lock that's in the front driver door? I can take it off the door myself in about a minute. I would think it is the exact same shape as the actual trunk lock, since the same key worked in both. prob won't save on labor, but should be faster if they can use that lock

if it has the full pin set, then yes. What you may need to do is take the door panel off long enough to short the leads to the button and pop the trunk and remove that lock. If I remember correctly, the trunk button lock and glove box lock both only have half of the pins. I could be mistaken though.

i took the button off the door, then cut a little of the insulation off each wire going to it (there's only 2 wires) I then touched a wire to the bare parts on the two, CLICK, trunk popped. Now I just need to buy a button from AutoZone, for cleaner look. Button prob like $5. Cool thing is, i can run the new switch in a hidden location if I want. NO KEY NEEDED, FTW! (unless my battery dies...in that case, FTL)
