I drive an 02 Sable with the 3.0 DOHC engine and occasionally when I am driving, the check engine light will flash on and off. I was driving at 50 miles per hour and accelerating but then it was almost as if the engine hit the rev limiter even though it was only at 2500rpm and I couldn't accelerate any more. Do any of you have an idea what the problem might be?

sounds to me like either bad gas, or a fuel restriction. how many miles on the car and when was last time a fuel filter was replaced? might even be due for a tuneup. have you checked the transmission fluid and air filter lately also? i had a car that would bog bad, and came to find out the air filter was shot and clogged BAD. the car couldnt breathe and was fighting itself to run. the transmission will hold back the engine if it cant shift right due to a clogged transmission filter but doubt that is the case as new as it is. the fuel filter can get clogged also due to impurities in the fuel that it filters out and can restrict the fuel flow causing it to fight to feed its thirst.

All right, one thing at a time. Let's stay calm and do what should be done first. Have the car plugged in and see what codes are the check engine light are trying to tell you. Don't go crazy and start changing everything. Second, your car does not need a tune-up for 100,000 miles, unless you drive the car in harsh conditions. (Scheduled maintenance not included) Third, is this a constant problem? If not, when is it most apt to act up? See what the computer has for codes. I'm guessing it's a bad sensor. Maybe a cam sensor. Let me know.
