Headlamps still do not function. Only my brights work. Here's what I've done so far.

Replaced both headlight bulbs with brand new ones. Replaced all
fuses that correspond to any of the following, right headlamp, left
headlamp, autolamps, daytime running lights, etc. I also replaced
the headlight switch entirely, still have the same problem.

The only remaining possibility is melted wiring insulation.

there are 2 possibilties first the haedlamp switch and wiring melt and this can be fixed by replacing switch and connector with wiring available at a dealer if thats ok the lamps run through the multi function switch in the steering column you can try wiggiling the turn signal handle with the headlamps on and see if they flicker if so replace switch in column hpe this helps good luck

I first replaced the headlamp switch several months ago and it didn't solve the problem. However, WWEB, you were right on the money. I replaced the multi-function switch and everything is back to normal. Thanks so very much!

Larry,

The part is the turn signal switch for 90-98 taurus and sable and can be found on ebay or on various other online parts stores. Price ranges from 45-55 bucks plus shipping. Installation can be a bear, but that's only because the screws keeping the column shroud on weren't coming out easily - they're threaded backwards from a normal screw. The screws holding the shroud on are underneath the column - 3 of them? maybe 4. Oh, and make sure you have the battery disconnected so the airbag doesn't deploy while you're working on there (common sense). There's also a release switch on the underside of the column that can be pushed with a flat head screw driver. Once you get the shroud off you're smooth sailing, just a few screws hold the switch on, remove those and pop in the new switch, place the column shroud back on and you should be in business. I'd be shocked if this wasn't the cause of your problem being your car's symptoms were exactly the same as mine. Oh, and I'm no mechanic either and was able to get through it after realizing the way those screws threaded.

Hope that helps some,

Ben
