The check engine light on my 2001 Sable started flashing last week and the engine started running as if in a limp home mode. Took it to a ford dealer. They report no codes. Don't know what's wrong. Think it's a fuel pump, but wouldn't commit. The outdoor tepmerature changed minus 30 degrees overnight. Any ideas?

Was the light on when you took it to the dealer?? The temp sensor could just be a coinsidence.

The light wasflashing, and the car still is at the dealer.

hmmmm..let us know what they say!

They fixed it on day 2. They said they drove it 115 miles with the WDS to run EEC monitor test and fuel pressure test. The found the fuel filter was plugged. Changed the filter, and performed complete fuel system flush. Looks like it was bad $2.25 gas. They added that the fuel pump runs hotter if the gas level is below 1/4 tank. They returned the car to us...on empty, of course! Thanks for your concerns. HD

kinda intresting that it took 115 miles to determine that the wds is a pretty sophisticated piece of equipment im not a tech and dont wanna bash any other dealer but that seems excessive and usally if they believe its a fuel concern they can check it with a manual pressure meter in there bay and could check the filter by just taking it off and trying to blow air through it.. anyway hope everything is ok from here on out.

I agree. I worked on 56-59 cars as a kid. I've kept all mine running before 1974. Since the smog controls, computers, no points, and now, no distributors, fuel injection, etc, etc. I'm at the mercy of someone else. When my 91 Taurus failed the "speed shop" that took it on said it was the coil, no - the, hall effect switch (ford's version), no - the distributor, no - the computer. I hope the charity that inherited that car got some use..and a good mechanic. Good luck all. Thanks MercAdvisor. Been a nice chat. HD Edited by: hdfoor
