2003 Sable Blower Resistor
 

Hello,
We just bought a 2003 Sable. The car is in great shape and only 40K miles.
The only issue is the blower on the AC/Heater. It only blows on high speed.

I have done some research on this, and found that these Sables have an issue with water getting into the motor and the resistor, causing problems.

I am trying to replace the resistor. Not being a very experienced mechanic I had problems locating it, but I seem to have found it under the glove box.

The problem I have having now is getting it out. I disconnected the cables and put a ratchet on the 2 bolts. But the won't come out. They turn, but never seem to come out.
Seriously, I turned one for 10 minutes and it is the same as before. I know the bolt is turning but nothing happens.

Without laughing at me, can anyone tell me what is wrong?

the plastic the screws are set in is probably stripped out. you may have to pull on the harness part of it while you unscrew it.

If u have no luck there and don't have climate control, may be the low-speed fan switch.

I used a knife and pried the resister down while unscrewing it. Took a while, but it came out, and the plastic was definitely striped. Went down to XL parts and picked up a new resistor for about $14 and put it in place while still in the parking lot. The blower now works fine.

Other comments in other threads lead me to believe that there could be further problems if the water leak is still there, but I think this car has been corrected already. But I will keep an eye on it and see what happens.
