I own a 1990 sable sedan. My problem is My colomn. to get My reverse lights to come on I have to "play" with the shifter. is there something I can adjust to fix that?

there is a switch that gets passed over or stopped on when changing gears. when you put it in reverse it is either going a little past or stopping a little before the reverse switch. needs adjustment.

but how do I adjust the switch? or do I need to take it in for service

i guess that depends on how mechanically inclined you are. a column shifter is definately harder to adjust than a console shifter. try and take alook underneath the steering column (under the dash) and see if you see anything. they're will also be a neutral saftey switch under there, too.
