advice on where to find a part, please

Somebody clipped us and broke the red plastic thingy that goes over the rear turn signal on the passenger side. We have a 1992 Mercury Sable. Does anyone know where we might find a replacement? What is that thingy called, anyway?

are you referring to the part that the light shines through or another part?

btw, is it a Sedan or Wagon?

Yes, the red plastic lens, I guess maybe it is, that the lights shine through.

It's a sedan.

then you'll need to replace the entire tail-light assembly. The plastic lens is not a separate piece.

looks like the only place that has the 92 lens on-line is everdrive.com (for $110)

I see one on ebay though for $16 + $13 shipping

If this one on ebay isn't the right one (check the picture and see if it matches what's on your car) then check with a dealer before ordering something from someone (and possibly call them to verify compatibility with your car).

Thank you very much for your help. By calling the junk yards in the area I found a really neat one, though. They said they had two 1992 Mercury Sables on their lot but they couldn't say just what was left on them. You pay a dollar to get in and they stamp your hand if you need to get back out. You have to bring your own tools and they tell you the general area where your car might be and you have to hunt up and down the rows, hoping to find something. We found ours and decided while we were at it we might as well get another part off of it to replace one that had had a broken area in it for a long time.

It was really, really cheap.

So our poor car is all better now!

Thanks again!
