While driving my car this afternoon it slowed to a stop.
I had just turned a corner and when I tried to accelerate the car would not do so and just slowed to a stop. I turned the car off and restarted it. The car started, I could switch gears, (its an automatic) but I could not get the car to move. I put the car in neutral and pulled it onto a side street.
A couple days ago the brake light was going on and off.[img]smileys/smiley19.gif[/img] I really can''t think of what it would be...

since engine is running and will start and such... sounds like you have a transmission issue.

Sounds like a transaxle prob to me, too. Checked the fluid level/condition? In my experience with dummy lights, a blinking brake light means an ABS prob on Fords. You are sure it wasn''''t the O/D indicator light blinking? That''''s a trans prob code indication. No gears work right? No reverse? Just engine revs? Let us know. Oh yeah, it is a Sable right? I had a 1993 Ford Taurus and when that transmission went the car would jerk when it was changing gears.

Its a 1999 sable with 130,000 miles.

I was able to change into all gears, the car just wouldn''t move. Only the engine would rev. I didn''t check any of the levels, I honestly wouldn''t know what they mean.

the transmission is what makes the car move... it transmits the power from the engine to the wheels. either it is extremely low on transmission fluid or the transmission is fried. the transmission should be service every 30,000-60,000 depending on driving habits. i am sure it has never been touched and fluid is toast.

It''s easy. Make sure th car is at operating temp. and on level ground. Then pull the transaxle dipstick (not the engine oil one), wipe it clean and re-insert the dipstick completely. Pull it out again and read the level. Hopefully it registers. Add as needed. If it shows up on the dipstick it should have a bright maroon, almost blood color. It should not look brownish and smell burnt. Good luck!
