Door A jar?
 

I apologize in advance but have a simple question that I could probably answer if I had a bit more time

I recently bought a 1999 Sable LS wagon with 48K miles. I drove it home (it runs great) without a problem but when I parked it in my yard the door ajar light came on. (I know the door is a door not a jar.) I checked the doors and they were all closed so I think a switch is bad. (Probably the driver’s door because it did it just after I opened the door to back into the yard.) It was raining so I could only spend a few seconds looking for the button in the drivers door jamb – but didn’t see it.

Can some tell me if there is a contact switch in the door jamb (I hope so) or if it is in the door mechanism?

And how it works? Does it just complete the circuit to ground with the door open, or door closed, or feed a 12 v signal to the BCM? I don’t have a wiring diagram so I can’t guess at what it does.

If all else fails can I jumper it somewhere to turn off the light?

It will help if I have a bit of knowledge when I try to fix it.

I had the same problem in my 97 Sable wagon and you have to replace the switch or try to lubricate it. But I pulled interior light relay from the fuse box under the dash to get the lights off till you can fix the switch.
