I own a 1999
Sable GS with just over 155,000 actual miles. I am experiencing a
low-pitched hum from the front end at just about any speed. There
is also some vibration. This humming becomes louder when
ascending/descending hills. I just had the rear wheel bearings
checked, the right one replaced. I had the front wheel bearings
checked back in May. My mechanic said that they were fine.
Is there a possibility of the ball joints, C-V joints or tie rod ends
needing replaced?

I am uncertain of what to tell a mechanic to check with this type of
noise, especailly when I spent considerable money to have the right,
rear wheel bearing replaced. It had to be removed by a cutting
torch because it was seized to the rod. I am beginning to think
this vehicle is junk, and that I should find a decent Crown Victoria or
Mercury Marquis with REAR WHEEL DRIVE. I am beginning to think
that these 1996-99 Taurus/Sables have faulty front wheel drive
components, as well as these vehicles' rear components. I am also
beginning to think that a rear wheel drive vehicle is more reliable and
cheaper to operate considering the repairs that I have had and am
eventually facing. How much longer can I drive this Sable before
it has to be salvaged because of faulty engineering?

I appreciate any advice that I could get. Thank you
