Glove Box Problem
 

so, my glovebox stopped latching onto the dash today and i have no clue why. the latch itself still works but it seems to be a problem latching onto the mount on the dash. doeds anyone have any idea why this could be . its a 1996 merc sable

make sure there's nothing preventing the glove box from closing all the way (papers, manuals, stuff) in the glove box and behind the glove box. also, check the latch and catch for stuff stuck to it. If everything is clean and clear of debris, then the catch may need to be adjusted if it has screws that hold it down and can be adjusted.

theres nothing caught in between the box and dash. by the catch do you mean the metal rod that the box latch catches onto. how do i adjust thiscatch

Yes, I mean that metal rod. if it has oval openings in the base plate that are attached with screws, there may be some adjustment room. If you can't see anything like that, then you probably can't adjust it. you might also check to see if the glovebox itself is secured (no loose screws underneath on the hinge, screws on the inside of the box holding it on the dash, etc). If nothing works, this probably means that the latch is broken away from the door itself and is allowing enough angle for the latch to spring open (check for screes on the inside of the glovebox door that would be on either side of the latch and make sure those are tight).
