<DIV>I was driving on the expressway Saturday afternoon and all of a sudden my car just stopped working! My engine was still on and I still had power. I was able to coast to the emergency lane and there I sat. When I would shift into drive, reverse or any other gear and hit the gas nothing happens, no movement. I had to get my car towed to a mechanic. I was just hoping to hear that there might be something else wrong besides needing a new transmission? Can your transmission just stop working in the middle of driving?</DIV>

 

Sounds like thr transaxle just let go. Year? Mileage?

 

The same thing once happened to me while driving a Pontiac Grand LaMans quite a while back. Turns out the fuel filter needed replacing. We had the car 2nd hand and it had high miles on it (too long ago to remember how many).
