Oil leak and shudder

Hey all...I'm new to this forum, although I've owned my Sable for almost 5 years now.
I have a couple of issues and I'm sure they are unrelated, but I'm hoping they are fairly common problems which have been dealt with before.

2000 Sable Station wagon 3.0L DOHC

Problem #1 is a persistent oil leak, I believe it's coming from the front of the engine and it leaks right on to the exhaust manifold or pipe...I could live with the leak if it were just dripping on the ground, but since it's right on the hot exhaust it makes the car smell (not so much while driving, but when stopped it get pretty bad). My question is: Is this a fairly common leak and what do you do to fix it (cheaply)?

Problem #2 my car "shudders"...let's say you're driving along say 35-40 mph and you come to a little hill. As you get about half way up the hill and the engine needs a little more gas (before the trans kicks down), the engine will begin to shudder.... Is this an indication of bad motor/trans mounts?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi, I too have that same shudder in my 2003 sable ls. Has anyone given an answer ? I am wondering if its the mounts also. Thx

On the shuddering it sounds like the transmission torque converter has a bad lock up clutch that is slipping. When it kicks down, the clutch is no longer engaged so the shudder quits. I have seen that a lot in cars that have overdrive transmissions.

The fix is what you think it is. Have to remove the trans-axle.
