I have a 97 Sable that I recently bought and the console is just nasty and filthy. A gal at Schucks told me to just remove it and clean it because it cost alot to replace it unless you goto a junk yard. I cant figure out how to take this thing off, anyone know?

do you mean the center console? There should be a few screws that hold the plastic portions down. This is a best guess though since I have never owned any of those, but have seen a couple.

if all else fails, you could always just windex it in place.Edited by: slymer

There should be a couple screws under the dash and in the bottom of the storage compartment(s). The console shifter handle will have to come off, too. I would go with the Windex, little groove scrapers, toothbrush, etc. Unless it''s cracked, discolored or beyond cleaning that is.

Its the console inbetween the seats. The cupholder thing. It has a part the lifts up between the front and back seats, and then another part that lifts forwards towards the front of the car that holds the drinks. I dont know where the scerws are. The only screws I''ve seen were in the back part at the ashtray.

Probably best to clean it in place then.

My Sable actually has this console and I have removed it before. The trick is to carefully pry out the plastic catch tray on the bottom. This is visible only when it is open. There will be four screws that will require a ratchet set to remove the console. It looked so much better after I had cleaned it. Someone spilled coffee on it and the stain came back every time I cleaned it. I ended up taking it out and soaked it with the garden hose a few times till it squeezed out clean.
