I have a 1995 Sable GS 4 door that seems to have what I am guessing is a common electrical problem on Sables. The tail lamps (running lights) do not turn on. The headlights/brakelamps/blinkers all work fine, but the tail lamps and that set of lights that is between the headlights do not turn on. I have checked all the fuses and bulbs - all fine. The tail lamps WILL come on when I apply the brakes. I pulled out the headlight switch and noticed the harness had a burned-up look. At the junk yard I found several other Sables also had what appeared to be burn damage in the harness right at the plug end that you attach to the actual switch. I put on a new switch from the junk yard hoping the harness would work anyways - it did for about a day - then there was an electrical burning smell and once again the taillamps wont function. I guess I'll have to try to fish out the whole electical harness from the dash and replace that as well as the headlamp switch. Anybody have any idea how hard it is to get the whole harness out? Is that what you would recomend replacing? I figured since out 30-40% of the harnesses I saw at the junk yard had damage, a lot of people must have encountered this problem before. Any help would be apreciated. dibrowzz@yahoo.com
