Ok, I fixed my grannys car(my car now), for the drive back home yesterday. I put it in reverse to check that the tranny was still ok, but I didn't get farther than three feet when I heard a graind and POP! The brake pedal sunk all the way to the floor and I had to use the emergency brake to squeel to a stop. It was close to 100 degrees when noon time hit so I'm going back down this coming weekend.


I'm thinking it's a master cylinder but it could be just a brake line.....what do you think?


I called the parts store, the master cylinder is only $38 and it looks simple to swap out.

It was a simple fix, two busted rear brake lines. All was well after that and I drove it home.

I started to have front brake noise the other day. I tried to buy pads at my local Advance Auto store and they actually had to order the $17.99 pair since there were none in stock.


So today, my Father in law and I tried taking off the right front ones first, after about an hour of tugging and hammering on the pins I broke the brake line. I'm going to coast it down the road tomorrow morning and have my mechanic replace the lines and pads and just save these pads for my next change.


The car now has 19,100 actual miles. Those old pads on there are the original ones from 1988 and the pad started to seperate from the disc....insane!!

its not hard to replace the lines you just have to be sure and run them the right way and the padsa are 50 times easier all you need is to get the caliper off and undo the pads and make sure you compress the caliper or the new ones wont go in

brakes are easy to do. steel lines get rusty and break. calipers you undo the pins and press the caliper piston in a lil to get it to remove from the rotor. after removing the pads, you will need to press the caliper piston in and install the pads and put it back together. i would have replaced the calipers and such anyway as preventative.
