Cant get the left half shaft out of the trans
 

hi all. I have a 1997 mercury tracer LS. I was going to change the cv joint, but all i could buy was the whole axel. I cant get the left half shaft out of the transmission. is there a tool or something I need to do to get it out. I have tried pry bars, and all that I could think of, and nothing is moving it at all. Any help would be great, we have been working on this for over 6 hours!! Thanks!!
