I have an 88 Tracer and i am trying to find the door ajar buzzer, the one that when you have the keys in the ignition and open the door, it goes off. I was wondering if anyone can help me find the location of this alarm.

I''d guess under the driver side dash near the fuse box. Let me know if you already checked.

I''v checked and I can hear it. it is by the fusebox somewhere. There is so many wires in the way and the space is tight. I can see a grid of relays above the fuse panel, but I can''t see everything.
would the buzzer look like a big gray or green relay like the rest or do you think it might be round and hidden somewhere within the relays?

Yep. Just feel one by one and see if you can feel it vibrating.

I found it, thank you

Have you started the trans swap yet?

farmboywynn 08-29-2008 10:56 PM

no i havn''t, but i have found a 5sp manual tranny. the problem is that there is no shifter, clutch, or linkages with it, it is just the tranny. i think i will wait and keep looking until i find a tracer with everything I need. i''m just wandering if there was anything real important i should know about before i attempt the swap. if you have any comments or information about it feel free to join in, i started a seperate post on the tranny swap. any help would be appreciated.

If you are going to go through with the swap, I definitely agree and would wait until you find a Tracer with a 5-speed. If not, it could prove to be overly complicated. Mounting and plumbing out the clutch slave, and master cylinders is something you would want to copy from a factory 5-speed set-up. The drive side CV axle length, if it is different, (they are almost always shorter anyway) is something else that would make life easier. The pedals and mounting brackets, too. Hopefully they made both set-ups with a hand brake style e-brake. I think with having 4 pedals, you will come up short on space down there. Hey, do we even know if they made Tracers with 5-speeds? Mercury isn''t known for putting standards in too many of their models. But don''t fret, I''m sure a same year Escort would substitute well. Anyway, that is just touching on all the changes that will need to be implimented to make this swap work. Definitley keep me updated man.
